Season Preview 2006
The 2006 UCSC Women's Cross Country team starts the season with new faces and a whole new attitude. Just five runners from last year's roster have returned this season, however a bright group of newcomers make this the fastest group of harriers in the short history of UC Santa Cruz Cross Country.
Along with Anne Shultz and Jen Uhlig, the program lost their most decorated runner, Danielle Zelinski, to graduation. Several other runners moved on to other pursuits as the program has continued to become more competitive and demanding. With this new attitude, several newcomers have joined the team ready to work hard and move forward.
Team Captain Tamara Torlakson(JR) is the top returner for the Slugs this season. She is joined by Senior Olivia Vegh, Juniors Katy Haynes and Jo Beck, and Sophomore Devon Orme. All the runners trained hard over the summer to lead the team to a successful '06 campaign.
Newcomers this season have come from all sorts of places, including within UC Santa Cruz. UCSC Junior Carolyn Jaeger joins the team for the first time and looks to be up front for the Banana Slugs. JC Transfer Miriam Hartig and Freshmen Ashley Stalzer and Raeann Davis will also have an immediate impact on the team this season. Several other new runners will be joining the team to make this a new look team with a winning attitude.
