The Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz found themselves in San Luis Obispo over the weekend for the Cal Poly Invite. Head Coach and Cal Poly Alum Adam Boothe brought his team down to SLO for the second year to face mostly upper division teams.

The Slugs finished 9th overall out of 13 teams, beating NCAA DII teams CSU Bakersfield and University of San Diego among others. Continuing to lead the team was Junior Tamara Torlakson in a time of 19:01. Top Frosh Ashley Stalzer was second for the Slugs in 19:47, followed closely by Senior Olivia Vegh in 19:56. Miriam Hartig(JR) was next to finish the 5K course for UCSC in 20:13. Keeping her spot as fifth runner for the Slugs was Katy Haynes in 20:38.

Angie Laurence(SO), Devon Orme(SO), and Raeann Davis(FR) continued their strong seasons, running 21:06, 21:28, and 22:15 respectively. Freshmen Kadhja Bonet and Danielle  Goldberg ran 20:43 and 22:48 in their first collegiate races.

The Slugs will race a small squad at the Shoreline Invite on Saturday, with most runners getting the weekend off. With less then a month left in the season the team is getting excited to show their stuff against the whole West Region on November 11th!
