Off to a Great Start
The UCSC Women's Cross Country team opened the 2006 season with a strong showing at the USF Invitational on Saturday. Hosted by the University of San Francisco at Golden Gate Park, the Banana Slugs finshed fifth, beating NCAA DI University of Pacific and DII San Francisco State.
Junior Tamara Torlakson completed the 5K course in 19:03 to lead the way for the Slugs in 21st place. Olivia Vegh(SR) was next across the line in 19:56, good for 41st overall. Miriam Hartig(JR), Ashley Stalzer(FR), and Katy Haynes(JR) finished off the scoring for the Slugs, with Raeann Davis(FR) close behind.
It was a good start to the season, with most runners under or close to lifetime bests for 5K. Next up for the Banana Slugs will be the UC Irvine Invite this Saturday the 9th at Central Park in Huntington Beach. Come out and cheer on the Slugs as they go up against several NCAA DIII West Region opponents.
