OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--- The top harriers from the University of California, Santa Cruz, earned the major honors as the Association of Division III Independents announced the All-Independent Cross Country teams today.
While Evie Borchard climbed to number two all time on the school's performance list for 5 kilometers, the men's team had a tight DIII team battle at Willamette University's Charles Bowles Invitational.
The UCSC men's cross country rose to 6th in this week's United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings. A solid opening race at the University of San Francisco Invitational brought the Slugs up from 10th in the preseason rankings.
The UCSC men's cross country team started their second cross country season with seventh place finish out of 17 teams at the University of San Francisco Invitational. Featuring some of the top cross country programs on the West Coast, the men showed they belonged in a field filed with DI and DII teams and won by Pac-12 powerhouse Stanford University while the Cal men finished second overall.
