Banana Slugs Take Part in Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

POMONA (10-3) – UC Santa Cruz participated in their first race in almost as they participated in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Pomona. Their opposition included eight NCAA Division III schools, four NAIA schools and three NCAA Division II schools.

In the men's race, Draven Hawk led the Banana Slugs' contingent with a 26:43 time and finished in 48th place. Takehiro Yamaya finished in 69th place with a time of 27:11.03. Kevin Feng finished 89th with a time of 27:37.64. Dante Capone finished in 97th place with a time of 27:47.46. Tommy Smail finished in 99th place with a time of 27:53.24. Joe Shanahan finished 112th with a time of 28:15.40. Andy Buck finished in 126th place with a time of 28:43.70. Luis Gonzalez finished with a time of 29:20.87 and placed 135th. Derek Jeffries finished 136th with a time of 29:29.61. Liam Dugard rounded out the Banana Slugs' contingent with a time of 29:35.86 and finished in 139th place.
 

In the women's race, Caitlin Devlin had the best individual performance of the day for the Banana Slugs placing 9th with a time of 22:14.02. Devlin's time was a personal record. Jamie West finished in 31st with a time of 23:11.96. Autumn Burton finished with a time of 23:18.89 and placed 37th. Shannon McClish finished in 91st place with a time of 24:40.05. Natalie Marquardt with a time of 25:14.20 and finished in 110th. Raissa Boysen finished in 120th place with a time of 25:29.91. Casey Chien finished in 151st place with a time of 26:30.60. Isabelle Panza finished in 157th place with a time of 26:50.64. Emmaline Fronczak finished with a time of 27:59.34 and placed 170th.

 

In the men's team competition, Cal Poly Pomona won the race while UC Santa Cruz finished tenth. Mark Huizar of Cal Poly Pomona won the individual competition. Cal Poly Pomona also won the women's team competition while UC Santa Cruz finished eighth. Karis Frankian of The Master's College won the individual competition.

 

The Banana Slugs' next race will be October 17th as they will travel to Sunnyvale to participate in the Bronco Invitational.
