Banana Slugs Participate in UCR Invitational

RIVERSIDE (9-17) – UC Santa Cruz took part in their second race of the season as they participated in the 36th Annual UCR Invitational in Riverside. Their opposition included nine NCAA Division II schools, seven NCAA Division I and DIII schools, three NAIA schools and one junior college.

In the men's race, Paul Colosi led the Banana Slugs' contingent with a time of 26:12.2 and finished in 143rd place. Ethan Williams finished in 160th place with a time of 26:21.1. Kevin Feng ran a 26:39.4 time which placed him in 186th place. Zahid Anjum finished 208th place with a time of 26:52.0. Solomon Reinman ran the course in a time of 27:35.1 which placed him in 265th. Vincent Chevreuil finished in 279th place with a time of 27:48 and Harmen Kang finished 2.1 seconds behind him for a 280th place finish. Jonathan Trinh finished 344th with a time of 29:01.9.
 

In the women's race, Shannon McClish had the best individual finish of the day for the Banana Slugs as she placed 38th with a time of 18:44.2. Sydney Gutierrez finished 44th with a time of 18:47.9. Jordan Rich ran a 19:11.2 time and finished in 66th place. Ashley Anderson finished 86th with a time of 19:29.9. Lizzie Meredith ran a time of 19:41.3 and finished in 107th place. Autumn Burton finished in 138th place with a time of 20:04.7. Sophia Mahoney finished the race with a time of 20:20.8 and placed in 151st. Emmaline Fronczak finished in 154th place with a time of 20:22.9. Isabella Demachkie ran the 5K course in a time of 20:33.3 and finished in 166th place. Erin Carvalho finished in 167th place with a time of 20:35.0. Raissa Boysen finished with a time of 20:57.6 and placed in 184th. Casey Chien finished in 204th place with a time of 21:46.7. Nicole O'Connor rounded the Banana Slugs contingent with a time of 22:25.4 and finished in 214th place.

In the men's team competition, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo won the race while UC Santa Cruz finished twenty third. Gilbert Kigen of Central Arizona College won the individual competition. University of Arkansas won the women's team competition while UC Santa Cruz finished eighth, ahead of the #5 and #7 ranked West Region DIII teams. Taylor Werner of University of Arkansas won the individual competition.
The Banana Slugs' next race will be September 25th as they will travel to Angwin to participate in the Pioneer Invitational.
NOTES: Colosi and McClish are now #7 alltime in the 8K and 5K respectively in UCSC history. The women's 5K was #3 alltime at UCSC.
