Cross Country hosts Banana Slug Invitational

The lone home meet on the Banana Slugs' schedule is the 2nd Annual Banana Slug Invitational, this Saturday at East Field. The loop course is great for spectators, offering an opportunity to see the entire race from one spot, while enjoying spectacular views of Monterey Bay.

This will serve as the final regular season event for the UCSC harriers as they prepare for the NCAA West Regional Championships. The men's and women's teams will be challenging for the win, hoping to build momentum into the post-season.

The race will also serve to help sort out the Slugs' post-season rosters.

"There will be some intra-team competition out there Saturday," said Head Coach Jamey Harris. "We need to confirm exactly who our top seven runners are, and the depth of both our men's and women's squads are leaving difficult decisions for the coaching staff. It's definitely a good problem to have, but hopefully tomorrow will provide some clarity."

The day kicks off at 8:00am with a 2-mile run that is open to anyone who registers by 7:30am. The action heats up at 9:00am when the Men's Invitational 8K will begin, followed by the Women's Invitational 6K at 9:45am.
