Cross Country kicks off 2017 season with great showing at Notre Dame Invitational
Belmont, CA- An incredibly hot day at the famous Crystal Springs Cross Country Course couldn't slow down the UC Santa Cruz freshmen.

Head Coach David Klech said "Today was a great start to our 2017 season. The team has really come together and formed a tight bond over the last two weeks.

"The men ran a very smart race in incredibly hot conditions on arguably the toughest course we will face all season. Freshmen Kellen O'Neil, Nick Kleiber, and Dante de los Santos were particularly impressive. They packed up early and worked their way through the field."
O'Neil was the highest-ranked Banana Slug harrier, placing 4th in the field of 54 with a time of 28:02.6. Klieber was sixth in 28:12.3 and de los Santos finshed 12th in 28:51.8. The Slugs finished 3rd of five, placing behind two Division II teams.

For the women, freshman Carrie Bradley finished 11th of 68 in the 6K in a time of 26:05

"Carrie Bradley really stepped up today leading the women," Klech said. We've talked a lot this preseason about the strength of our pack for the women and they executed very well today."
