Banana Slugs sweep AD3I awards

OVERLAND PARK, KS - Fresh off a historic performance at the NCAA West Regionals, the UC Santa Cruz Cross Country teams had more awards given by the Association of Division Three Independents.

Coach David Klech continued UCSC's streak of winning Coach of the Year by getting both the men's and women's coaching awards in a vote of the Association's coaches.

Paul Colosi repeated as Male Runner of the Year. On the women's side, Sydney Gutierrez won Female Runner of the Year after setting her PR twice in races against mostly Division I and II competition.

The Slugs also ran away with the Freshman runners of the year accolades. Nick Klieber won the men's award while Carrie Bradley won the women's.

Gutierrez and Bradley both made the AD3I First Team. Also on the team were senior Bella Demachkie and freshman Abby Klein. On the Men's First Team, Colosi and Klieber were joined by Dante Capone and Draven Hawk. Hawk's fifth place finish at Regionals was the best for a UCSC runner in 35 years.

The Slugs were also represented on both Second Teams. On the men's side, Solomon Reinman, Kellen O'Neill, Raymond Breault and Ralph Balaoing were honored. Lizzie Meredith, Autumn Burton, Emmaline Fronczak and Allie Lourim were on the women's Second Team.
