Slugs Announce 2018 Cross Country Team Awards

The University of  California Santa Cruz Cross Country program announced its team awards for the 2018 season at its annual team banquet on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Nick Kleiber received recognition for setting the School Record for the 8K Distance running 24:25 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.  He recorded the second fastest time by a Division 3 student-athlete in the West Region. Senior Shannon McClish received recognition for setting the School Record for the 6K Distance running 21:15 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.  She recorded the third-fastest time by a Division 3 student-athlete in the West Region.

Additionally, the Men's team of Paul Colosi, Draven Hawk, Nick Kleiber, Dante Capone, and Kellen O'Neill were recognized for setting a school record for team time at the NCAA West Regional Championships, 2:07:34 (25:30 average).  The Women's team of Shannon McClish, Sydney Gutierrez, Anya Cooper Hynell, Amelia Huster, and Carrie Bradley were recognized for setting a school record for team time at the UC Riverside Invitational, 1:35:28 (19:05).

The Men's and Women's team also set a program record of 7 All-Region honorees by virtue of their top 35 finishes at the NCAA West Regional Championships; Paul Colosi, Draven Hawk, Nick Kleiber, Dante Capone, Kellen O'Neill, Shannon McClish, and Sydney Gutierrez. Kellen O'Neill and Natalie Marquardt were honored with the Coaches Awards, which are presented by the coaches to recognize athletic achievement, dedication and determination.

Luke Trafecanty and Carrie Bradley were awarded the Teammate Award, which is voted on by the student-athletes to recognize a teammate is supportive, maintains a positive outlook, and is a mentor athletically, academically, and socially.

Shannon McClish received the Tamara Torlakson Cross Country Award as the outstanding women's performer for cross country, while Paul Colosi was honored with the Armando Siqueiros Cross Country Award as the top performer on the men's team.
