James D. Spiegel, M.D. received his medical education at the University of Maryland and conducted his Internship and Residency at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine in California.
He currently works in the Orthopaedics Department of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Santa Cruz. Dr. Spiegel’s specialty emphases are: anterior cruciate ligament injury and reconstruction, degenerative joint disease, hip replacement, knee reconstruction, knee replacement, ligament reconstruction, meniscus injury, shoulder dislocations, shoulder reconstruction, shoulder replacement, and Sports Injuries.
He is the UCSC Team Physician and the Assistant Team Physician for Cabrillo College. He is additionally Associate Clinical Professor (Emeritus 2010) in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Spiegel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, California Medical Association, and the Santa Cruz County Medical Society.
Dr. Spiegel is married with three children and enjoys cross country single-track mountain biking, hiking with family, history, PBS’ Masterpiece Mystery, Yosemite (“greatest place on earth!”), and promoting libertarian anarchistic politics.
