In a 65-86 loss to CSU East Bay, the Slugs were unable to contain Iman Young, who took control of the first half pouring in 20 of the Pioneers' 45 points. In the second half, the Slugs would try and fight back but couldn't put enough runs together as the Pioneers led by as many as 26. East Bay scored 16-second chance points as they out-rebounded the Slugs 40-22, while also scoring an easy 26 points off of UCSC's 19 turnovers. Once again, Jenna Chabot led the Slugs in scoring, ending the night with 17 points, while Senior Point Guard Rachel Ocampo had one of her best games, scoring a career-high 16 points. The Pioneers were unable to contain Ocampo as she shot 7 for 8 from the field, going 2 for 2 from behind the 3-point line. Rachel also tied the UCSC record for most steals in a game, ending the night with 6 and was also only 1 assist shy of her first double-double, as she dished out a season and career-high 9 assists. Freshman Kayleigh Calandri was the third Slug to score in double-digits as she ended the night with 14 points, going 4 for 7 from beyond the arc. Four Pioneers scored in double-digits; Iman Young led all scorers with 24, Breanna Carson had 13, while Nicole Scott and Sarah Thorton each added 10.
The next night, the Slugs had to battle against DIII Independent Chapman University. The Panthers shot 68% in the second half to pull away from a 12 point half-time lead as they finished off the Slugs 63-38. The Slugs just couldn't put the ball in the basket as they were held to a 34% shooting night, and a dismal 36% from the charity stripe. |
