Lumberjacks Chop the Slugs Down to Size

The sixth week of the season finds the Slugs falling to a Division II opponent, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks.  The Slugs were limited to 9 players as injuries continue to plaque the team.  The Slugs did have some really impressive efforts with three of its players scoring in double digits.  Senior Captain Megan Gaynor, 12 points led the team on the offensive and defensive front.  Freshmen forward, Molly Davisson finally found her place on the offensive front and began to use her size to pull 11 points from the Jacks’ defense.

The Slugs struggled to stop the Jacks from the outside in the first half.  Head Coach Nikki Turner switched it up in the second half and all the Slugs defensive efforts limited their opponents to one 3 pointer.  Turnovers and a poor shooting night left the team needing to improve on some fundamental soundness.  The long trip was a huge gain for the Fighting Banana Slugs as they battled together until the end.  After having two tough road trips the Slugs have melded back into a unit.

A four day break for the Christmas holiday will give the Slugs the necessary rest to recoup from the past tough three weeks and its injuries.  The Slugs find week 7 traveling down for another LA trip this time to take on Occidental and possibly perennial rival Chapman.
