Women's Basketball Opens Their Season with a 68-50 Victory Over Pomona-Pitzer

The Slugs came out strong in their season opener against Division III opponent Pomona-Pitzer with a 68-50 victory. They are opening their season in the So Cal Tip-Off Tournament that is hosted by both Pomona-Pitzer and University of La Verne.

Leading the way for the Slugs was Junior guard Kayleigh Calandri. Calandri finished the night off with 25 points, shooting an impressive 53% from the field, including shooting 4-6 from behind the arc at 67%. Senior point guard Talia Joyce also had a strong showing, scoring 9 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. Another strong showing also came from Sophomore forward Molly Davisson. Coming off the bench tonight, Davisson finished the game with 13 points and 6 rebounds, also shooting an impressive 55% from the field.

Wrapping up the tournament tomorrow, the Slugs will face the University of La Verne (at Pomona-Pitzer) at 4pm. The Slugs fell to La Verne last year 86-72. With the momentum from tonights win, they hope they can come out strong in tomorrow's game and walk away with another victory.
