UMHB WOMEN'S GOLF TIED FOR SECOND AT UMHB FALL INVITATIONAL

Temple, TX -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team put all five players in the top 12 on the opening round of the UMHB Fall Invitational and the Lady Crusaders are tied for second in the team standings after the first day. The UMHB women shot a 327 total to tie Southwestern University for second place, one stroke behind Northwood University's 326 team score. Southern Nazarene is fourth at 328 and Oklahoma Baptist rounds out the top five at 334. Newman University is sixth with a 340, Lon Morris is seventh at 345, Hardin-Simmons fired a 350 for eighth place, Trinity University is ninth after recording a 353, Tyler Junior College is in tenth place at 356, McMurry University shot a 363 for 11th place, U.C-Santa Cruz is 12th with a 373, Southwestern College shot 375 for 13th, LeTourneau University carded a 382 for 14th place and Texas Lutheran shot 396 for 15th place. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,822-yard layout at Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

            Northwood's Karen Ehlers has the individual lead after shooting an opening round 76. She is one stroke ahead of Southern Nazarene's Jennifer Butler (77). Karen Hudson posted the best individual finish for UMHB with a 79 to tie for fifth place. Heather Barber shot 82 and is tied for ninth place for UMHB and Kaci Fritsch, Jenna Felechner and Jodye Templeton all posted 83's to tie for 12th place for the Lady Crusaders. Venessa Gonzalez shot 84 for UMHB and is tied for 21st, Sarah Kutin carded a 90 to tie for 51st, and Taylour Shaw shot 95 to tie for 68th.

                The tournament wraps up with a final round of 18 holes tomorrow. Teams will tee off with a shot gun start at 8:30 AM.
