NORTH PLAINS, Ore. - Led by Brianna Nap’s 84, the George Fox University Bruins took an eight-stroke lead, 360 to 368, over the University of California-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs after the first day and 18 holes in a women’s golf dual match Sunday afternoon here at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s Ghost Creek course.

Nap carded a 42-42=84 for a three-stroke individual lead over Santa Cruz’s Jessie Lewis, who shot a 45-42=87.  Other counting scores for the Bruins were 45-44=89 by Mandy Cameron, 49-43=92 by Nicole Hudson, and 45-50=92 by Christine Collier.  The Slugs got counting scores of 46-43=89 by Halley Sutton, 47-47=94 by Alison Aragon, and two players shot 98: 50-48=98 for Megan Gochoco and 49-49=98 for Laura Naygle.

“Pumpkin Ridge is a very challenging layout, so overall, the team has played well against a ranked D-III team,” said Bruins coach MaryJo McCloskey, pointing to a pre-season rating of No. 19 nationally for UC-Santa Cruz in the NCAA Division III by World Golf magazine.

The second and final day of the dual match will tee off at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pumpkin Ridge.

Complete results of Day 1 of the George Fox vs. UC-Santa Cruz dual match are available on line on the George Fox women’s golf site at www.georgefox.edu/athletics/womens_golf/2008/ersults/1014.pdf.
