Second Win on the Season
McMINNVILLE,
OR -- The
UC Santa Cruz women's golf team picked up their second team win on the season
at the Linfield Invitational this weekend. Hosted at the Michelbook Country Club,
the Slugs were just three shots behind Linfield College after the conclusion of
the first day. Senior Jessica Lewis shot a 37 on the back nine to keep the Slugs
within striking distance. During the second round the Slugs came from behind to
win by 16 shots. On day two the Slugs were led by Junior Halley Sutton who shot
a 76, Sutton had the best round of the Invitational and the best round of her
career as she finished third overall. Sutton clenched the victory for the Slugs
with a birdie on the par five 18th hole. The Slugs took third, fourth (Julia Williams),
fifth (Jessie Lewis), and sixth (Alison Aragon) place individually. Freshman,
Julia Williams shot 81, 80 and has true star quality while Alison Aragon keeps
the team deep and in contention for the finals.
