George Fox's Cameron leads after day one of Pacific Invite

BANKS, OR -- George Fox's Mandy Cameron sits atop a closely packed leaderboard after darkness shortened the first day of the Pacific Invitational, held Saturday at the Quail Valley Golf Course.

Cameron led four George Fox players in the top-four of the individual standings, finishing with a five-over-par 77. Northwest Christian's Ashley King sits one stroke back with a six-over-par 78 while the Bruins' Sarah Askin is in third with a round of seven-over-par 79. Three players are tied for fourth with rounds of 82, including George Fox's Kelsey Morrison and Brianna Nap and UC Santa Cruz's Halley Dutton.

Three groups, comprised of 12 golfers, were unable to complete their rounds before play was suspended by darkness. The groups will complete their rounds beginning Sunday at 9 a.m., prior to the start of the second round. Second round groups are scheduled to tee off at 10:30 a.m. Official team scores will not be compiled until the first round is completed.

While George Fox's placing will likely seat them on top of the team race after one round, both UC Santa Cruz and Pacific stand poised to challenge the Bruins. Tami Park (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) leads a string of three Pacific golfers in the top-10, sitting seventh with a score of 84. Valerie Kitamori (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) is eighth with an 85 and Jasmine Ching (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) is ninth at 87.

The Banana Slugs saw Kristen Omi finish 10th with an 88, Yukari Shikishima finish in a tie for 13th at 90 and Alison Aragon finish 15th after carding a 91.

Other teams competing in the field include Corban, Lewis & Clark, Linfield, Northwest Christian and Willamette.
