Wildcats Claw their Way to a Tie

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- In today's game versus the Linfield Wildcats, the Slugs controlled the game but couldn't come out with the 'W''. The Slugs started off strong, as they have done since the season opener, with Bryan Baird scoring his third goal of the season in the 14th minute. Eric Tozer passed a through ball to Anthony Scarlett who then placed a beautiful cross right to Baird charging the net. Baird finished the ball putting the Slugs up 1-0, Tozer and Scarlett were credited with assists.

Towards the end of the first half, Linfield would score on their first and only shot in the first 45 minutes. With 9 minutes left in the half, Linfield's Andy Sharp scored off a direct kick just outside of the box.

In the second half, the Slugs would take 6 shots to the Wildcats' 1, and both teams would go scoreless forcing the game into overtime.

In double overtime, the Slugs would continue to put on the pressure while Linfield packed in the defense. The Slugs were unable to net any of their 6 overtime shots or convert their 5 corner kicks opportunities.

Linfield Goalkeeper Grant Williams had 6 crucial saves that kept the Wildcats in the game.

The Slugs will look to bounce back from this game against the University of La Verne on Sunday at 12pm.
