Recruits
To become a Slug Soccer player, you must a Division I caliber player who is looking to be a part of a program that is truly special. Players choose UC Santa Cruz over a variety of Division I programs for many reasons. From the world-class academic opportunities of the University of California, to our amazing campus, UC Santa Cruz is an amazing place to go to school, but more than anything players come to UC Santa Cruz to be a part of something special. We are a Division III soccer program that does not let itself be limited by that label. We seek a level of excellence that transcends divisions, as we seek our maximum potential both on and off the field. The Recruiting Process Our team is formed through recruiting rather than open tryouts at the beginning of the season. For prospective Slugs it is important that you understand the recruiting process. We spend the Spring and Summer of a prospective player’s Junior year, and the fall of their Senior year narrowing our recruiting list to our top 20-30 players. During the winter and spring of a players Senior year we will spend as much time as possible getting to know our top players as players and as young men. We typically finish our recruiting class by mid-March of a prospective player’s Senior year. For prospective Slugs we suggest the following: 1. Contact us: Fill out our recruit form, or contact Head Coach Dan Chamberlain via email @ dchamber@ucsc.edu 2. Come to our summer camp: This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your abilities over the course of 5 days. For camp information click here. 3. Play at our 6 a Side Tournament: Our annual 6 a side tournament is not only an amazing day of soccer on one of the most beautiful fields in the nation, it is the perfect opportunity for you to showcase yourself to the coaching staff. For more information and a registration form click here. 4. Make a visit to our campus: Come and visit one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world! To reserve a spot on our campus tour click here. In addition make sure to contact Head Coach Dan Chamberlain via email @ dchamber@ucsc.edu to schedule time to meet while you are here. 5. Send us a video: Due to the number of players that contact us every year, we are physically unable to make it out to see everyone play. Especially if you are unable to attend our summer camps or our 6 a side tournament, please put together a short (5-10 min) highlight video that showcases every part of your game (even your weaknesses) and send it to: Dan Chamberlain 6. Plan to see us play: While it is hard to meet with recruits on game days, it is extremely valuable for you to get a clear picture of our level of play, our style of play, and the atmosphere surrounding a college soccer game at UC Santa Cruz. |
