September 18, 2007 Slugs Get Complete Performance, Down Holy Names 3-0
"For the first time this season, I think that we have seen what this team is truly capable of" said head coach Dan Chamberlain after his teams dominating performance against regional rival Holy Names. "I think that we really put it together today, and to be honest it could have been 5 or 6 goals today." The Slugs came out of the blocks on fire and converted on their very first attacking move of the game as a ball was slipped in for CJ Villalobos (SO, London, England) on the right hand side. Villalobos crossed to Tim Degrasse (JR, Santa Cruz, CA) who was all alone on the back post for the games opening goal in the 2nd minute of the game. The first half was filled with much of the same as the Slugs dominated possession in the midfield through Cameron Hector (JR, San Jose, CA), Evan Chambers (SO, Healdsburg, CA), and Davin Kono (JR, Encinitas, CA). The Slugs were unlucky to be up only one goal at the break, as they had three goals called back for offsides, and a dubious no call on a clear penalty, as Davin Kono was dragged down in the box by the Holy Names goalkeeper. However, the Slugs stayed positive, and found their second goal through Clay Sorensen (JR, San Rafael, CA) for his second of the year, assisted by Kono in the 64th minute. Jason Lent (JR, Bell Canyon, CA) added the third as he pounced on a rebound in the 81st minute for his first goal of the season. The Slugs stay at home and face NCAA Division III Independent rival Chapman University on Friday, September 26th at 4PM on the Lower East Field. |
