Former Slug Marquess Standing Out in the MLS

katie vb
SANTA CRUZ, CA - Former Slug Matt Marquess is making quite an impression in Kansas City these days. Earning himself a starting spot with the Kansas City Wizards in his first season in the MLS, the rookie is being mentioned among candidates for the MLS Rookie of the year.

Marquess, who transfered from Santa Cruz to star at Santa Clara University, is the fifth former Slug to play in the MLS and is one of three active Slugs in the MLS. 2007 Graduate Adam Smarte was the 1st overall pick in the MLS Supplemental Draft this year and is currently with the San Jose Earthquakes, and Steve Wondolowski won an MLS Championship with the Houston Dynamo last year.

Matt and the Kansas City Wizards are auctioning off a Marquess jersey, the proceeds of which will go to support 5 local Kansas City charities benefiting the youth. If you wish to bid on the jersey go to www.kcwizards.com. The auction ends Monday, September 15th!
