Hemsley and Fondy Named Association of Division III Independents Student-Athletes of the Month for October
OVERLAND PARK, KS-- The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) named women’s soccer forward/goalkeeper Kiauna Hemsley, a junior from Trinity Washington University, and men’s soccer forward Matt Fondy, a senior from the University of California – Santa Cruz, its Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of October.
Hemsley played double duty in the month of October as she was called upon to fill in at goal when a fellow goalkeeper was injured. She is her team’s second leading scorer with eight goals, including one in a 3-1 win over Washington Adventist on Oct. 8. Additionally, the Baltimore, Md., native played five games in goal and recorded 45 saves.
Fondy, a business major from Foster City, Calif., lead his squad to a 6-2 record in October. He personally tallied six goals and five assists throughout the month, good for 17 total points. Fondy’s best performance came in a 3-2 win over NCAA regionally ranked Southwestern University on Oct. 23, in which he scored all three goals.
The Association of Division III Independents consists of 13 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2010-11. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.
