| September 23, 2004 Caitlin Carpenter Unstoppable in Oregon DIII INDEPENDENTS -- Caitlin Carpenter provided all of the offense for UC Santa Cruz in two out-of-state road victories, including an upset of a Top 10 ranked opponent, and has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week, as the Slugs (5-2-1) sweep the weekly soccer awards. Carpenter notched three goals in three games for UCSC. In a 1-0 upset of No. 10 ranked Willamette University in Salem, Oregon on September 17, she tallied the game’s only goal 23 minutes into the contest, as UCSC prevailed 1-0. The upset ended Willamette’s 74-game home unbeaten streak that had lasted more than seven seasons. Two days later, she scored two unassisted goals for the Slugs in a 2-1 double-overtime triumph against Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. She originally gave UCSC a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, before notching the game-winner in the 100th minute. |
