Senior Day Ends in a Win for the Slugs

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruzís senior day ended fittingly.

Slug senior Caitlin Carpenter scored the clinching goal with 39 seconds left in overtime, and the Slugs upset Redlands University 2-1 Sunday at UCSC and likely earned a berth in postseason play.

UCSC (11-4-2, 8-4-2 D-III) came into the match ranked fifth in the West Region, and needed an upset over No. 3 Redlands (ranked 22nd in the nation) to keep their postseason hopes alive. Four teams are generally selected to from the West to play in the NCAA tournament.

Annick Lamb scored on a header in the 60th minute off a long pass from Morgan McCarthy to even the game in the second half.

"The same thing happened against Dominican," McCarthy said. "I got a pass and was able to find (Annick) Lamb in front...."
