Women's Soccer Gets National Recognition

UC Santa Cruz Katie Loomis (Junior), Megan Cox (Junior), and Annick Lamb (Sophomore) have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Far West Region Team for 2006. The trio led the Lady Slugs to an outstanding season finishing with a record of 17-0-4 and advancing to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the first time since 2002.

Cox, selected as a First Team Defender, from Alta Loma, CA, was instrumental in leading the team to a record 18 shutouts. Her flawless one vs one defending and great cover support was exceptional. Her aggressive play helped UCSC limit their opponents to 3 goals on the season.

Lamb, selected as a First Team forward, from Santa Barbara, CA, lead the Slugs with 20 goals and 1 assist. Ten of her goals were game winners. Her outstanding speed and ability to finish under pressure sets her apart.  This is her second selection to the All-West Region Team, as she was named to the Second Team her freshman year.

Loomis, named as the Second Team keeper, from Tacoma, WA had a spectacular season.  Her individual stats of .114 goals-against-average and .968 save percentage lead the nation. Fifteen shutouts established a new UCSC single season record. Her final game performance was her best of the year, shutting out the nations #1 ranked offense Hardin –Simmons in the third round of the NCAA Championships.
