Women's Soccer Team Received Several Individual and Team Post-Season Honors for 2007

The UCSC Women’s Soccer Team has received several individual and team post- season honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the DIII Independents Association following there 12-3-2 seasons. Returning to the NCAA post-season championships for the second year in a row the lady slugs took another step towards competing for the DIII Title. All 4 graduating senior players, Katie Loomis, Didi Ramirez, Megan Cox and Danielle Mullen received honors, acknowledgement of their contribution during their four years and the success and prominence that they were able to achieve.

The UCSC Women’s Soccer Team finished the 2007 season ranked 25th in the Nation in the NSCAA final season poll after an evenly contested post-season loss to Whitworth College in overtime. This is the Lady slug’s third NSCAA top 25 ranking in the last 4 seasons. The team recorded 12 shutouts and gave up 11 goals on the season.

Loomis
Senior, captain, goalkeeper Katie Loomis (Tacoma WA) was awarded with the Goalkeeper of the year award from the Association of DIII Independents. This was Katie’s second selection in that category. Katie’s outstanding shot blocking and vocal leadership on the field helped define her position as among the top keepers in the country. Loomis finished the season with 12 shutouts, 11 goals allowed and 34 saves. Her career consisted of 44 shutouts and 50 games won which set new records at UCSC.

Didi
Senior, captain, midfielder Didi Ramirez (Sacramento, CA) was selected to the NSCAA All-West Region 1st Team and to the Association of DIII Independents 2nd Team. Didi’s excellent ball skills and relentless work-rate in midfield helped distinguish herself from fellow competitors. Her consistency helped the lady slugs establish themselves as a dynamic attacking team.

Senior, captain, defender Megan Cox (Alta Loma, CA) was selected for the second time to the NSCAA All-West Region Team. Se1ected to the 1st Team 2006, Cox received 3rd team honors in 07. She was also selected to the Association of DIII Independents 2nd Team (1st Team 2006). Megan’s technical skill combined with relentless defending made her a unanimous choice for the second consecutive season. Following an early season injury, that limited her playing time in the first 8 games, Megan was able to regain her form and help lead her team to a second consecutive post-season appearance.

Danielle
Senior, forward Danielle Mullen was selected to the NSCAA All-West Region 2nd team and to the Association of DIII Independents Honorable Mention Team. Danielle’s determination and commitment was the catalyst for this teams success. She was willing to work harder than any other player on the field. She was a threat in scoring goals playing in either the wing or center forward position.


Annick

Junior, forward Annick Lamb (Santa Barbara, CA) was selected for the second year in a row to the NSCAA All-American Team. Selected to the 2nd team in 06, Lamb received 3rd teams honors for 07. She was also selected to the NSCAA All –West Region 1st Team for the second year in a row and to the Association of DIII Independents 1st Team. Once again Annick demonstrated that she was a threat to score at any moment in the game. Her technical abilities and pure athleticism make her a very difficult attacking player to contain. She recorded 5 game winning goals in 07 raising her career total to.

Karli
Sophomore Midfielder Karli Cowman (San Anselmo, CA) was selected to the Association of DIII Independents 2nd Team. Karli’s first post-season recognition comes after a tremendous year playing as the team’s def. Midfielder. Starting in every game in her first two seasons, Karli’s consistency with the ball on offense and dominating play in the air has had an impact on the lady slug’s style of play.
