UCSC Lady Slugs Edge Out Willamette 1-0

Danielle
TACOMA, WA -- Junior Annick Lamb dribbled though a group of players and scored at 86:31, sending the Banana Slugs to a 1-0 victory over Willamette University in a women's soccer game hosted by the University of Puget Sound on Tuesday, Sept. 4th. UC-Santa Cruz, playing its third game in five days, improved to 2-1.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes at Willamette last season, and a similar result seemed likely until Lamb's goal broke another scoreless deadlock. UC-Santa Cruz finished the game with a 20-8 edge in total shots, but held a much slimmer 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Banana Slugs achieved a 7-4 margin in corner kicks.

UCSC Keeper Senior Katie Loomis recorded four saves to earn the shutout. For Willamette, Lo Holahan registered three saves during the scoreless first half, while Kelli Gano allowed the goal and earned two saves over the final 45 minutes.

The Lady Slugs will return to Santa Cruz for two days before heading down to Los Angeles for match-ups with the University of Redlands on Friday, Sept. 7th and Claremont College on Sunday, Sept. 9th.
