Lady Slugs Women's Soccer Top Chapman in Overtime, 1-0

Annick_Westmont
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- As the rain clouds cleared, West Region Division III Rivals UCSC and Chapman took to the pitch to battle it out. The Lady Slugs slowly took over, controlling possession of the ball and outshooting Chapman 17-4. The Slugs team defense came up big once again, not giving up one corner kick thoughout the entire match.

However, regulation ended in a 0-0 tie, sending the game into golden goal overtime. In the 7th minute of the first overtime period, outside back Katie Hayden sent in a lofting cross from the right side of the field onto the top of the six yard box. Junior Annick Lamb was able to connect, out jumping a Chapman defender and heading it over Chapman Keeper Brittni Marciano to score the game winning goal.

UCSC Senior Keeper Katie Loomis earned her fourth shutout of the year. The Lady Slugs move to 4-2-1 on the season and will take the week to prepare for their next match in Oakland versus Holy Names on Saturday, September 29th at 1pm.
