ROHNERT PARK, CA -- Sonoma State University junior Kiley Brown scored the go-ahead goal just 1:25 into the second half, helping to break a 1-1 halftime knot and propelling the Seawolves to a 2-1 victory over UC Santa Cruz in the final tune-up before the 2009 regular season kicks off on Friday.

Brown's goal at 46:25 wasn't her first of the match, as senior Lindsay Catton found Brown running in behind the Banana Slug defense in the 16th minute to put Sonoma State up 1-0 early.

UC Santa Cruz countered with a nice cross pass from Katy Van Beroldingen on the left side of the goal box to Wendy Funk who headed the ball past SSU netminder Courtney Grixti for the equalizer at 29:18.

In the 47th minute, junior Jaci Davey passed upfield to Brown who beat Chazen to the upper left side of the net for the eventual game winner.

Each team saw several chances in the match to blow the game wide open but 11 total saves in the match helped keep the low scoring affair intact. The Seawolves outshot the Banana Slugs 16-5 including Grixti's two saves on the day. UC Santa Cruz' Janneke Lang made three saves and backup goalkeeper Monica Chazen had a game-high six stops.

Brown and senior Tracy Webster paced the Seawolf offense with four shots each and sophomore Libby Moyer added three attempts.

Funk had four of the Banana Slugs' five shot attempts.
