Women's Soccer Team Received Several Individual and Team Post-Season Honors for 2007

The UCSC Women’s Soccer Team has received several individual and team post- season honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the DIII Independents Association following there 12-3-2 season. Returning to the NCAA post-season championships for the second year in a row the lady slugs took another step towards competing for the DIII Title. All 4 graduating senior players, Katie Loomis, Didi Ramirez, Megan Cox and Danielle Mullen received honors, acknowledgement of their contribution during their four years and the success and prominence that they were able to achieve. Women's XCountry and Men's and Women's Soccer Find their Athlete's on the All-Independent Honor's List

University of California, Santa Cruz runner Mikayla Murphy, a freshman from San Luis Obispo, was named the Women’s Rookie Runner of the Year. Muprhy was also named to the All-Independent Second Team for Women's Cross Courntry. (more)

Both UCSC Soccer Programs receive NSCAA Team Academic Award

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- A total of 406 soccer teams (111 men, 295 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2006-2007 academic year. Of that total, UC Santa Cruz is one of the 71 schools that had their Men's and Women's programs both recognized. This is the second year in a row that the Women's program has received this very prestigious award. (click here to see full school list)

Women's Soccer Falls to Whitworth in Overtime 2-1

TACOMA, Wash. - Kimberly Mitchell knocked in the game-winner just 1:19 into the first overtime as the Whitworth Pirates pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory over the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship, hosted by University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Mullen receives Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of California-Santa Cruz senior forward Danielle Mullen (Santa Barbara, Calif.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. Mullen scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season in a 5-0 win over Cal State East Bay on Nov. 3. Her first goal proved to be the game-winner.

UCSC Women's Soccer Come Together, Important 1-0 Win

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- The Lady Slugs Women’s Soccer team move one step closer to a possible bid to the NCAA Championships with a very important 1-0 victory over Division III Cal Lutheran.  Cal Lutheran’s tough defense and speed proved to be a challenge for the Lady Slugs, but UCSC came together and found a way to win. Lady Slugs Conquer the Panthers with a 2-0 Victory

ORANGE, CA –  The UC Women's Soccer team move to 9-2-2 and take another big step forward towards a chance for a NCAA playoff birth with a very important 2-0 win the victory over Chapman University improves the Banana Slugs unbeaten streak to eight straight games (7-0-1). (more)

Morgan McCarthy Receives Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. University of California-Santa Cruz junior defender Morgan McCarthy (Brookfield, Wash.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. McCarthy scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 overtime win over Cal State East Bay and also assisted on a goal in a 6-0 victory over Dominican.
