Mike Runeare

Coach Runeare is entering his fifth season as head coach of the UC Santa Cruz Women’s Soccer Team.  In 2006 under Runeare’s direction the Lady Slugs recorded their first undefeated season. The Lady Slugs have earned top 10 NSCAA, NCAA national rankings, have produced 1 NSCAA All-American and 6 NSCAA All-West Region players. The team also was awarded the NSCAA Academic Honor Award and Runeare was awarded the NSCAA West Region Coach of the year in 2006.

Other current coaching duties include Men’s Head Coach Santa Cruz County Breakers National Premier Soccer League team, Camp Director UC Santa Cruz Nike Soccer Camp and advisory member of the NCAA Women’s West Region Ranking Committee. He also holds the Premier Diploma from the NSCAA

Prior to coaching at UCSC Runeare also served as an assistant Coach with the UCSC and Cabrillo College Men’s Soccer Teams. He has also been involved with coaching youth development within the Catalyst Soccer Club and the Santa Cruz County Breakers Premier Futbol Club.

Runeare is a graduate of The University of Massachusetts with a degree in Environmental Studies. He was captain and 4-year member of the UMass team.

Playing experience Includes service with reserve teams of the Houston Dynamos and Kalamazoo Kangaroos.

Mark Hogenhout

MARK HOGENHOUT
Assistant Coach - Women's Soccer

Mark is entering his fifth season as an assistant coach for the UCSC Women's Soccer program. He brings a tremendous amount of energy, experience, and passion as he evolves from a successful player to a coach. Mark is also a fifth year coach in the Santa Cruz Breaker's club for the U-14 girls and U-13 boys teams.

As a youth player, Mark played for Crossfire, F.C. Portland, and Wembley Soccer Acadmey where his teams enjoyed great success. As a senior at Olympia High School, Mark was selected to the Parade All-American Team and represented the United States by playing on the U-18 National Team. Mark went on to play for the University of Washington where the Huskies had the success of winning three Pac-10 Championships and four NCAA tournament appearances. As a senior, Mark earned All Pac-10 Conference 2nd Team honors. In 2001, Mark was drafted professionally to the Seattle Sounders of the USL Division 1. He currently plays for the NPSL Breaker's Team in Santa Cruz.

Mark holds a USSF "B" license as well as an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

Aileen Nasypany

AILEEN NASYPANY
Assistant Coach - Women's Soccer

Aileen, a 1999 graduate of Bentley College (Waltham, MA) who began her collegiate soccer career at Canisius College (Buffalo, NY), is returning for her fourth year as an Assistant Coach for the UCSC Women's Soccer Program. Upon graduation from Bentley, Aileen continued to pass on her passion for the game through coaching as she joined the coaching staff at Herkimer County Community College. After just one year she was promoted to Head Coach and led the team to a 10-5-2 record and a playoff birth. For her accomplishments, Aileen was named the Mountain Valley Conference Second-Team Coach of the Year.

After such a successful season, Aileen decided to put her coaching career on hold to promote women's soccer off the field with the newly founded Women's United Soccer Association. Here she spent three years heavily involved in many facets of the Boston Breakers front office, including team and field operations, hospitality, camps & clinics, website design, and merchandise.

After the league unfortunately folded, she returned to coaching and spent the 2003 season as an Assistant Coach for Emerson College. Aileen moved to the West Coast the following January where she has been working with youth premier club teams and high school programs within the Los Angeles and Santa Cruz areas. She is also a member of the WPSL Nighthawks Coaching Staff and holds her NSCAA National Coaching license.

Gina Ramirez

GINA RAMIREZ
Assistant Coach - Women's Soccer

Gina Ramirez 2005 graduate of UCSC with a degree in Marine Biology. She played four years at UC Santa Cruz '01-'04. She has coached for the Catalyst Soccer Club in Santa Cruz for the past five years. While home in Sacramento, she coaches for the Cavitt Soccer Academy. This is her second season as assistant coach at UCSC.


Melissa Runyon

MELISSA RUNYON
Assistant Coach - Women's Soccer

Melissa is entering her fourth season with the UCSC Women's Soccer program, with her main focus in keeper training. Melissa graduated from California State University San Bernadino in 2001 and played for four years for the Coyote's as their starting keeper. Melissa has a Master's Degree in Education from University of Phoenix. She currently holds her NSCAA National Coaching Diploma and is the Girls Soccer coach at Pajaro Valley High School.

 




Monica Lee

MONICA LEE
Assistant Coach - Women's Soccer

Monica Lee is currently finishing her undergraduate education at UCSC this fall with a degree in Environmental Studies. She played four years at UC Santa Cruz '02-'06. As team captain in '06, Monica was an important part of the squad's success as they ranked 8th in the nation advancing to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and finishing with a record of 17-0-4. This is her first season as assistant coach at UCSC. She also is a member of the coaching staff for the Catalyst Soccer Club in Santa Cruz in the summer.
