Slugs Swim at Finis Winter Invite
LONG BEACH, CA -- The Slugs recently returned from the Finis Winter Invite at Belmont Plaza Pool.
The Slugs set three school records. The men’s 200 free Relay ( 1:22.99), 400 Free Relay (3:03.25), and Ben
Ferguson in the 50 free, 20.20. In addition we picked up 13 NCAA consideration cuts and 1 NCAA
Automatic Cut. ( Ben’s 50 free, ranked #1 in the nation at present).
The meet went really well for the Slugs. The scoring was a little strange. After the first three days the Men's and Women's teams were in first, leading Fresno Pacific and Washington & Lee.
On the fourth day the scores were to be integrated into the first days events and rescored. The computer was unable to do so, so Washington and Lee was awarded almost all the points for the fourth day. The
Women maintained their lead over Fresno, while Washington & Lee moved into second place. With the additional points, the Washington & Lee Men moved into first place.
The Slugs, with the odd scoring, still won the team combined, and women’s team titles. Individually, Sarah Dunn won the 200 IM, Ben Ferguson won the 50 Free and 100 Free, Ariel Crocker won the 200 Free, Megan Crowley won the 200 Breaststroke, and Evan Moore won the 500 Free.
Both the Men's and Women's 800 Free Relay Teams edged out their PSCS rivals Fresno Pacific to capture the 800 Free Relay event. Sarah Dunn, Hanna Kim, Becca Robinson, and Ariel Crocker swam for women. Eric Hamer, Ryan James, Evan Moore, and Jamie Johnson swam for the men. The Men's 400 Free Relay Team also outswam the Sunbirds to capture their event.
