Women's Swimming: Lewis wins National Championship in 200 yard Breaststroke
UCSC Sophomore Mollie Lewis has
won the Division III National Championship for the 200 yard Breaststroke.
The UCSC Women's Swimming team
sent five participants to this years Championships, being held at Emory
University in Atlanta, Georgia. Lewis was joined by fellow Sophomore Laurel
Fink, along with Juniors Kara Holzwarth, Stephanie Miller and Kimberly
Onken. The team competed in the Medley Relays, coming in 17th in the 400
and 21st in the 200. They also came in 16th in the 800 yard Freestyle
and 23rd in the 400 yard Freestyle.
Holzwarth had another impressive
performance, finishing in 6th place at the 200 yard freestyle. Holzwarth
came in 12th place in the 100 yard Freestyle.
Lewis, who narrowly finished
second at the 200 yard Breaststroke at last year's Championships, was
the 2001-2002 UCSC Freshman of the Year for all of Women's sports. This
year she also finished in 11th place in the 100 yard breaststroke.
