Men's Tennis Heads to Minnesota for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships

Dear Slug Tennis fans,

After a wonderful double header on Monday where the Slugs won both matches decisively, we are off the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Gustavus Adolphus always hosts a great event and we look forward to our return as the defending champions. This event was the start of our wonderful run in 2007 and we hope to gain momentum again this year. To follow the results you can consult the host web site at: http://gustavus.edu/athletics/mt/archives/2008/2008_ITA/index.cfm

On Monday we played our top doubles teams in the opening match against Fresno City College and swept all three matches. In singles we started with our second team in singles and got straight set wins from Aaron Morrill at three singles, Jeff Fong at four singles, Ulrich Capaul at five singles and Brant Bates at six singles. Donald James, Justin Dorfman and Ryan Sass also won exhibition singles matches.

Against Washington and Lee University we again swept the doubles with Jared Kamel and Marc Vartabedian winning 8-3 at one doubles, Max Liberty-Point and Ilya Gendelman winning 8-6 at two doubles and Max Ortiz and Colin Mark-Griffin winning 8-2 at three doubles. In singles we also swept the matches dropping only one set as Jared won 7-5,6-3 at one, Max Ortiz won 6-4, 6-4 at two, Colin dominated 6-0, 6-1 at three, Max LP won 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (6) at four, Silvio Chiba won 6-1, 6-2 at five and Marc won 6-0, 6-2 at six.

This win was our seventh straight and gives us great momentum going into the Indoor Championships. I am very please with the growth and development of the entire team and look forward to the challenges ahead. Thanks to all our wonderful Slug fans and special thanks to the Bates family for providing a wonderful lunch for the entire team on our Monday match!

Best wishes and Go Slugs, Coach Hansen
