UC Santa Cruz welcomes Jonah Carson back for his fifth year as the Head Men's volleyball coach.

Marked by a Molten Final Four appearance and three AVCA First Team All-Americans, including the AVCA DIII Player of the Year, the 2008 season was a memorable one for the Slugs. The team finished the season ranked #3 in the AVCA Poll.

The 2007 season was an excellent one for Carson and the Slugs. The team earned a #2 ranking in the CSTV/AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll for 11 straight weeks and garnered a 7-2 record against DIII opponents. During the season the team was 13-1. In addition, Tyler Hinz was named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week while Bryan Shires earned All-American Honors.

In 2006, the Slugs attended the Molten DIII Championships and finished the season with a #4 ranking in the AVCA D-III poll. UC Santa Cruz players Tyler Madden and Matt Reynolds were named to the Molten All-Tournament Team.

In Carson's first year, 2005, the Slugs finished the season ranked #8 in the AVCA D-III poll with a 14-10 record. The team earned a 4-1 NCAA D-III record and seven weeks in the top 5 of AVCA poll.

Before taking the helm at UC Santa Cruz, Carson coached the successful Aptos High School Mariners, Aptos, CA. In three seasons at Aptos, the Mariners twice finished t-5th in the Central Coast Section and placed 2nd in 2004. During three years coaching, Carson was named Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Coach of the Year three times and coached three S.C.C.A.L. players of the year. He finished coaching and teaching at Aptos (86-26, 3 seasons) in 2005.

Carson has also served as the assistant coach for the men's and women's teams at UC Santa Cruz as well as the women's team assistant at Austin College, Sherman, TX.

Carson played at UC Santa Cruz for four years. He holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and a Masters in Teaching from UC Santa Cruz. He currently teaches English at Aptos High School and is the lead coach with Bay-to-Bay Volleyball Club.

Todd Hollenebck joins the Banana Slugs after coaching 2 successful seasons with both the boys and girls varsity at Peninsula High School.

Todd has coached at Peninsula High School for over five years as a coach, camp counselor and volunteer assistant while pursuing a career in marketing.

Originally from Rancho Palos Verdes located in southern California, Todd attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton CA. In 2007 Hollenbeck graduated from Pacific with a degree in Marketing.

Hollenbeck played division I volleyball for the Tigers as an outside hitter and middle blocker. In his senior year, he received the "Most Inspirational Player" award.

In addition to his responsibilities with UC Santa Cruz, Hollenbeck coaches the 16 Nike Blue team with Bay-to-Bay Volleyball Club. In the future, Hollenbeck would like to become a Division I volleyball head coach.
