Slugs Fall to Hope in 5 Games
 
SANTA CRUZ, CA ­ The #4 UC Santa Cruz Slugs (6-6, 2-0 NCAA DIII) lost their
first 5 game match of the season to visiting NAIA #5 Hope International
30-27, 31-33, 30-27, 24-30, 11-15.
 
Santa Cruz started game 1 hitting an aggressive .406 (14 kills, 6 errors, 32
attempts) to Hope¹s .161 to win the game 30-27. The Slugs¹ hitting then
dropped, after leading 20-13 in game 2, the Slugs lost 31-33 and hit .159
(14 kills, 7 errors, 44 attempts).
 
Then, in the deciding game 5, the Slugs committed 7 errors to hit -.167 (4
kills, 7 errors, 18 attempts) to drop the match 3 games to 2.
 
Bryan Shires earned 22 kills for the Slugs while Tyler Madden added 16. Matt
Reynolds continued his streak of 10+ assist per game with his 53 assists
effort versus Hope. Eric Reid added a personal season high 18 digs.
 
The Slugs next host Sacramento State on Saturday, February 25, 7 pm.
