Slugs Catch Groove, Defeat Sac St. in 3

SANTA CRUZ, CA – The NCAA #4 UC Santa Cruz Slugs (7-6, 2-0 NCAA DIII) defeated Sacramento State in 3 games (30-17, 30-25, 30-20). 

Santa Cruz was once again lead by the hitting of sophomore middle blockers Jesse Garber and Dave Henderson. The duo contributed 22 kills, 11 each, without a hitting error. Freshman middle blocker Max McDaniel earned 5 kills, also without an error. 

Eight other Slugs contributed to the kill column for the Slugs including 8 each by outside hitters Bryan Shires (So.) and Brice Dahlmeier (Fr.). 

Setters Matt Reynolds (Sr.) and Matt Smiley (Fr.) had 36 and 16 assists, respectively. Libero Eric Reid (Sr.) had 10 digs for the Slugs. 

Santa Cruz out blocked Sacramento 9.0 to 1.0. 

The Slugs play at NAIA Holy Names University, Oakland, CA on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 pm.
