UC Santa Cruz Brings in Excellent Class for 2006 Season
The 2006 recruiting class brings in a combination of northern and southern California talent and looks to make an immediate impact. "There are incoming freshmen that could start their first year in this," said Coach Jonah Carson.
Here's a look at some of the great incoming talent:
Two players come from Carson's former high school team. Brice Dahlmeier (6'3" OH, Aptos High, Aptos) was named Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League MVP and a Central Coast Section 1st Team Selection. Dahlmeier is accompanied by Matt Smiley (6'1" S, Aptos High, Aptos). Smiley, was an SCCAL 1st team selection.
Northern California sends two more players to UC Santa Cruz: Dan Wilson (6'6" MB, Serra) who's high school team earned a 2nd place finish in 2005 Central Coast Section playoffs. And, Jeff Hogg (6' Lib, Granite Bay) who look to compete for the starting libero position held by senior Eric Reid.
Chris Konish (6'2" OP, Lake Balboa) and Chris Lee (6'3" MB, Newport Harbor) round out the incoming freshman class. Both from Southern California, these two will have an impact on the team in the upcoming season.
Transfer Eric Pauley (6" Lib, UCLA) is happy to be returning to volleyball after taking two years off while studying at UCLA. Pauley was an accomplished setter for San Jose's Bellarmine College Prepatory school.
