| February 5, 2008 Slugs Ranked #1 in AVCA Poll, Head to Tournament to Face DIII Competition SANTA CRUZ, CA - The UC Santa Cruz Men's Volleyball team moved to the #1 spot in the CSTV/AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll. The Slugs, 8-4 overall, are 5-0 versus DIII opponents. The team has been led by the play of All-American outside hitter Bryan Shires (SR, San Diego, CA). Shires was named Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III Player of the Week for the week of January 22, 2008. Brad Sullivan (SO, Outside Hitter, San Jose, CA) and Brice Dahlmeier have also had an impact on the team. Sullivan was named to the All Tournament Team at the Wisconsin Invitational Tournament. The Banana Slugs head to the Nazareth Tournament, Rochester, NY, to play DIII matches. On Friday, February 8, the Slugs will play Eastern Mennonite University at 4 pm and SUNY New Paltz at 8 pm. On Saturday, the team will play host #4 Nazareth at 10 am. The team will play a playoff match on Saturday at either 2 pm or 4 pm against a team to be determined. Division III Poll as of 2/05/08: |
