Slugs Take on Host Nazareth
ROCHESTER, NY -- UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team defeated Nazareth on Friday at the Nazareth University tournament, winning in five games, 27-30, 30-28, 30-24, 29-31 and 15-10. The Slugs improve their record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 at the Division III level.
Junior Outside Hitter Brad Sullivan led the Slugs with 18 kills. Middle Blocker Max McDaniel contributed 16 kills and Eric Rowell had 69 assists.
Game one the Slugs were unable to keep up with the fast Nazareth attack and a loud home crowd. In game two the Slugs were able to keep Nazareth to only 7 kills and serve their way to a 30-28 victory.
In game three the Slugs picked up some momentum and stayed in control the entire game. Game four came down to the wire and Nazareth was able to dig their way to a 31-29 victory. In the fifth and final game the Slugs used aggressive serving tactics to take a 4-1 lead. The Slugs would hold their lead to win the fifth and final game 15-10.
The Slugs play their next match Saturday afternoon against Carthage University at the Nazareth Invitational in Rochester New York. The match is set to start at 12:00 pm EST.
