Slugs Fall To Vassar and End Tournament 3-1
ROCHESTER, NY -- UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team was defeated by Vassar College on Saturday at the Nazareth University Invitational, losing in three games, 27-30, 26-30, 28-30. The Slugs move to 8-3 overall and 3-1 at the Division III level.
Senior Middle Blocker Max McDaniel led the Slugs with 9 kills. Sophomore Opposite Shane Yablonka came off the bench to add 6 kills and 2 aces.
The Slugs looked like they had all the answers leading 25-21 in the first game. Vassar went on a serving run to catch up at 27-27. Vassar made three defensive plays to finish out the game 30-27. Game two the Slugs trailed most of the game but caught up at the end at 25-25. Vassar was able to escape the pressure and win 30-27. The third game was the same story; the Slugs were able to get close to Vassar but not able to close out the game.
The Slugs ended the Nazareth Invitational with a 3-1 record. Junior Outside Hitter Justin Lam received all tournament honors. Other notable performances include Sophomore Middle Blocker Alex Schwartz and Senior Middle Blocker Max McDaniel.
The Slugs play their next match Friday against JWU-Denver in Fullerton, CA. The match is set to start at 3:00 pm.
