Slugs Go 4-0
KENOSHA, WI -- UC Santa Cruz Menfs Volleyball team defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday afternoon at the Carthage College Invitational, winning in three games, 30-25, 30-22, 30-22. The Slugs improve their record to 14-9 overall and 7-2 at the Division III level.
Senior Outside Hitter Matt Smiley led the Slugs with 8 kills.?Sophomore Middle Blocker Alex Schwartz and Junior Outside Hitter Brad Sullivan contributed 7 kills.
After a 1:00 pm match the Slugs looked tired, but needless to say they stepped up their game. In game one there was a tie at 16-16 but the Slugs were unfazed by the MSOEfs assault.
In Game two the Slugs were awake and played free fun volleyball. Freshman Outside Hitter Bryce Meyer came off the bench and served game point to close out game two.
In game three the Slugs were hungry and blocked their way to a dominant victory. With the four victories this weekend the Slugs are hungry for a national championship.
The Slugs are now awaiting the decision of the selection comity for the Molten Final Four participants. The Slugs next match is Senior night against Santa Clara on Saturday, April 4 at 7 pm. This match will officially celebrate our 4 graduating Seniors.
