Men's Volleyball Takes Third in Molten Invitational

MAHWAH, N.J. –Top-seeded Juniata swept #2 Stevens Institute of Technology to win the 2009 Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship on Saturday at the Bill Bradley Sports and Recreational Center on the campus of Ramapo College. The Eagles have won a record six Molten Invitational Championship titles. The Eagles earned the 3-0 win with game scores of 30-26, 30-25 and 30-19. In the consolation game, #3 UC Santa Cruz defeated #4 Ramapo, 3-2 (30-27, 27-30, 30-26, 27-30, 15-13). . (more)

Men's Volleyball Drops Their Opener in the Molten Division III Men's Invitational Championship

MAHWAH, N.J. – Senior middle hitter Andrew Cranford of the second-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team helped to propel the squad to its first-ever national title match appearance after the Ducks upended the University of California-Santa Cruz in the semifinal of the 2009 Division III Molten Volleyball Championship Friday night in Mahwah, N.J. Sullivan Earns AVCA Division III Men's All-American Team

LEXINGTON, KY. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce its 6th Annual AVCA Division III Men's All-America Teams.

Juniata College and Stevens Institute of Technology lead the way this year, each placing two student athletes on the First-Team and another on the Second-Team. Springfield College and Vassar College also have three players a piece honored, with both landing a First-Team honoree and two Second-Team mentions.

Men's Volleyball Makes Molten Division III Men's Invitational Championship

LEXINGTON, KY - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and USA Volleyball (USAV), in conjunction with Molten U.S.A., Inc., are pleased to announce the Midwest/West Region at-large representative and seeding for the 2009 Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship. This year’s tournament will be held April 17-18 at Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J. (more)

The Slugs record drops to 9-6 overall and 3-1 at the Division III level. Junior Outside Hitter Brad Sullivan led the Slugs with 11 kills. The Slugs record drops to 9-4 overall and 3-1 at the Division III level. Senior Outside Hitter Matt Smiley led the Slugs with an impressive 21 kills. FULLERTON, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales University on Friday at the Darling Pavilion, winning in four games, 26-30, 30-26, 30-19 and 35-33. The Slugs improve their record to 9-3 overall and 3-1 at the Division III level. Junior Outside Hitter Justin Lam led the Slugs with 18 kills. The Slugs improve their record to 7-2 overall and 3-0 at the Division III level. Junior Outside Hitter Brad Sullivan led the Slugs with 17 kills and 6 aces. The Slugs improve their record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 at the Division III level. Junior Outside Hitter Brad Sullivan led the Slugs with 18 kills. SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team defeated Cal Berkley on Saturday night at the West Field House, winning in four games, 23-30, 30-26, 30-24, 30-28. Junior Out Side Hitter Brad Sullivan led the Slugs with 18 kills and Junior Outside Hitter Justin Lam was next with 14 kills. Eric Rowell contributed 56 assists in the match. (more)

Slugs Take Down the Alumni in Three

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball (4-2) team defeated the UCSC Alumni on Saturday night at the West Field House, winning in three games, 30-22, 30-27, 30-24. There was a great turn out of over 20 alumni spanning from the class of 1975 to 2008. The Alumni came out fired up in the first game but were unable to keep the pressure on after 4-1 lead. In game two the Slugs found themselves down late in the game but were able to climb back to win. (more)

UCSC Men's Volleyball and Hula's Island Grill Announce Mahalo Monday's Fundraiser in March

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- Every Monday in March, you can support Men’s Volleyball at UC Santa Cruz by eating at Hula’s Island Grill in Downtown Santa Cruz. Hula’s will donate 10% of the proceeds from sales to men’s volleyball program. The donation will support travel expenses for the team. (more)

Slugs Get Win at Holy Names

OAKLAND, CA -- UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball beat host Holy Names University for the second time in two weeks. The Slugs (4-2), won in four games by the scores of 28-30, 30-20, 30-27, 30-26. Matt Smiley (Sr., Outside Hitter) led the Slugs with 8 kills while fellow outside Shane Yablonka (So.) added 7 kills. Justin Lam (Jr., Outside Hitter) and middle Alex Schwartz (So.) each chipped in 6 in the effort. (more)

Slugs Let Fifth Game Slide

STOCKTON, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Mens Volleyball Team(3-2) lost to The University of the Pacific (2-4) on Friday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center; losing in five games, 31-29, 28-30, 27,30, 30-28, 8-15. Junior Outside Hitter Justin Lam led the Slugs with 28 kills, and Junior Outside Hitter Brad Sullivan fallowed up with 19 kills. The Slugs where able to out block Pacific 13 to 11.5 but the Tigers where able to out dig the Slugs 47 to 43. (more)

Slugs Ranked No. 2 in Preseason Poll

LEXINGTON, KY. -- The Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz boast a pair of returning 2008 AVCA First-Team All-Americans in outside hitters Brad Sullivan and Austin Einhorn, as the squad has been selected as the No. 2 team in the poll this preseason. UC Santa Cruz, who is fresh off a 15-11 overall mark one year ago, grabbed one first-place vote in the process, and will again look to secure an “At-Large” bid to the Molten Invitational in April. SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team defeated Holy Names University on Saturday night at the West Field House, winning in four games, 30-17, 30-14, 27-30, 30-25.
Senior Outside Hitter Chris Konish led the slugs with 9 kills, and Junior Setter Eric Rowell was next with 8 kills. Eric also contributed 42 assists in the match. (more)
