UCSC Women Start Big in Buffalo

SANTA CRUZ -- The UCSC women’s volleyball team opened its season with an impressive show of offense, slamming Keuka College of Keuka Park, New York in Buffalo.

The Slugs won in three straight sets, 30-21, 30-24, 30-18. Freshman Brina Mocsny had seven kills, hitting .500 and freshman Kacy Borba had seven kills and hit .750 for the Slugs. The Slugs also served up 21 aces in the three games.

"It was definitely a boost for us to start the season off with a win, but the girls are aware that it’s just the first game in a long season," head coach Jay Hosack said. "The caliber of this team is so high that it has really raised the bar for UCSC volleyball. It’s the best team I’ve coached in three years."

The Slugs face D’Youville College today, then head to the Ithaca College Invitational in Ithaca, New York on Friday.
