Slugs Continue to Play Strong on the Road

The UC Santa Cruz Women’s Volleyball team lost a tough, five game match to NCAA Division II, CSU Monterey Bay on Tuesday, September 16th.  The Slugs took the first two games 25-18, 25-22 only to drop the next two games 12-25, 21-25.  The fifth game was extremely close and exciting going into extra points but coming up short 18-20.  Leading for the Slugs was Senior Outside Hitter Megan Wisniewski with 13 kills, 4 digs and 3 blocks.  Junior Setter Amy Knight had a double-double with 34 assists, 12 digs and 3 aces for the match. 

UCSC then traveled to Menlo College again going to five games but this time with a different outcome.  The Slugs played sluggish the first two games 22-25, 20-25 only to come alive and win the next three straight 25-16, 25-15, 15-11.  Leading against Menlo was Senior Outside Hitter Megan Wisniewski who racked up 15 kills followed closely by Katie English who had 14 killsSenior Libero Melinda Tom contributed 28 digs along with Junior Defensive Specialist Rosie Borchert who had 25 digs.

To finish off the week, the Slugs played at Holy Names University and played solid taking the Hawks in three straight games (25-22, 25-21, 25-15).  UCSC again looked to their Outside Hitters Megan Wisnewski and Katie English to lead the team in kills (12 and 10 respectively).  Senior Defensive Specialist Sophie Manoukian led the team in digs with 15 for the match.

The UCSC Women’s Volleyball team travels to Mills College on Tuesday, September 23rd and hosts their first home matches on Saturday, September 27th.  The Slugs face Whittier College at 3pm and #12 ranked Cal State East Bay at 7pm in the West Field House.
