Slugs Defeat Oaks in Four
SANTA CRUZ, CA --
UC Santa Cruz Women’s Volleyball team defeated Menlo College on Saturday night. The Slug’s won in four games 24-26, 25-16, 25-23, and 25-18. This win moves the Slug’s overall record to 12-6.
Sophomore Katherine Grow led the slugs with 18 kills, followed by Sophomore Middle Blocker Ginger Berryman with 9 kills. Junior Setter Alyssa Trakes contributed 46 assists and Freshman Libero Gabriela Dae had 19 digs for the match.
It was an all out battle in the first game with the Oaks just sneaking by the Slugs at the very end. Game two was all Slugs. The Slugs came out with a 12-1 lead and didn’t look back. Game three was another close battle with the Slugs sneaking by to take with a veteran ace by Junior Alyssa Trakes. Game four was close until 15-15 when the Slugs pulled away with their aggressive serving game
The Slugs did a great job serving tough ending with a season high of 10 aces. The Slugs ended with a .281 hitting percentage and season high of 77 digs.
The Slug’s play their next match Friday morning in La Verne against Endicott College. The match is set to start at 9:00 am.
