LA VERNE , CA --
UC Santa Cruz Women’s Volleyball team defeated the University of La Verne on Friday night. The Slug’s won in five games 25-12, 24-26, 25-19, 19-25, and 15-13. This win moves the Slug’s overall record to 13-7.

Sophomore Katherine Grow led the slugs with 21 kills, fallowed by Sophomore Opposite Hitter Elizabeth Trambley with 12 kills. Junior Setter Alyssa Trakes contributed 47 assists and Sophomore Libero Jaime Weber had 20 digs for the match.

Game one the Slugs came out with fire and the Leopards were unable to respond. In game two both teams would not give up any ground but the aggressive serving game of the Leopards helped them slip by.

Game three was close but aggressive blocking from Junior Middle Blocker Helen Milne helped the Slugs gain the upper hand.

Game four was another nail biter. The Leopards rallied and put together a great come back to edge out the Slugs. Game five was an up and down battle with the match winning kill going to Outside Hitter Katherine Grow.

The Slug’s play their next match Saturday morning in La Verne against Chapman University. The match is set to start at 11:30 am.
