BRIDGEPORT, PA (September 19, 2007) – Six teams can lay claim to being ranked #1 as the September 19 Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10, Division III Top 10, National Collegiate Varsity Top 20 and National Collegiate Club Men's Water Polo polls were released to the media.
In the CWPA poll, three teams are tied for #1 as Bucknell University and St. Francis College (NY) moved into a tie for the top spot with the United States Naval Academy. Navy, which was a unanimous pick as the top team in the league as the Midshipmen earned 100 points in the preseason and Week 1 and 2 polls, saw its uncontested spot as the #1 team in the league erased as Bucknell moved up from third and St. Francis from second place with 95 points to bring parity to the league standings. Princeton University, which fell to Bucknell 13-12 in overtime last weekend, remained fourth in the poll with 84 points, while Brown University moved out of a tie with George Washington University for sixth place in the September 12 poll and into a tie with Johns Hopkins University for fifth place this week as both the Bluejays and Bears earned 76 points. George Washington University slipped to seventh in the poll with 73 points due to the Hopkins-Brown tie at fifth. Mercyhurst was the biggest mover of the week jumping from outside the Top 10 to eighth place with 49 points, while Harvard University remained ninth with 47 points. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology joins Mercyhurst as a new team in the Top 10 as the Engineers jumped to 10th place with 38 points after not receiving a vote last week. Fordham and Iona College, which were ranked eighth and 10th a week ago, fell out of the Top 10 with 34 and 13 points, respectively.
