November 16, 2007 #8 UCSC Men's Water Polo Defeates #9 Claremont 11-10 A man-up goal by Devon Allred with 55 seconds remaining in the second overtime period gave UC Santa Cruz the 11-10 victory over Claremont Friday morning in the championship play-in game. Claremont, which led by as many as three goals, had a 6-5 advantage at the half, but UCSC came back to tie the game, eventually taking an 8-7 lead. An even fourth period resulted in a 9-9 contest at the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime. The Banana Slugs were first to score in the extra period, getting a goal from K.C. Drake in the first overtime period, before Tyler Owens tied it up for the Stags in the second overtime. However, Allred’s score gave UCSC the win, sending the Banana Slugs into tonight’s contest against top-seed UC Davis.
